Sacrificial Love

In John 15:13, Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” Many people have looked at this verse, and have simply recognized that Jesus was going to lay down His life for all of humanity, and have stopped there. In other words, not everyone realizes that this verse applies to us. But it does. I John 3:16 says,

“We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”

There is no question about it – we are commanded to love with a sacrificial love. Husbands have a special charge on them from the Book of Ephesians:

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her…” Ephesians 5:25

Now, laying down our life doesn’t necessarily mean dying for someone, since we can only do that once in our lives. Rather, it means that every day we are to lay down our own selfish rights and demands in order to care for others. There’s no greater love than that.

  1. At its face value, Passover is a celebration of the Exodus of the Jewish People from Egypt 3500 years ago.
  2. As we learn about the Passover celebration and its customs, it will help us to better understand what took place at that Last Supper 2000 years ago.
  3. We need to dig into the meaning of Passover that Jesus added to it in His fulfillment of it…
