The Fire on the Altar
May, 2005
The first chapters of the Book of Leviticus contain a long series of
specifications about the altar and various offerings to God. Within
these details is a specific commandment concerning the fire on the
altar:
"Fire shall be kept burning continually on the altar; it is not to go out." Leviticus 6:13
These commandments having to do with the tabernacle may seem irrelevant
to Believers today, except when we consider the direct connection they
have to our lives. You see, 1 Corinthians 6:19 tells us that our bodies
are the temple of the Holy Spirit of God. The fire on the altar is a
picture of our spiritual lives.
So what can we do when the fire is barely simmering in our lives? Jesus
gives us an incredibly simple answer in Luke 11 - simply ask God to fill
you with His Spirit!
"So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will
find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks
receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be
opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he
give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent
instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a
scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit
to those who ask Him!" Luke 11:9-13
So don't let your fire go out - kindle it afresh today!
